Chaos Walking - Bola

Concepts for a bola-like creature for Chaos Walking. Originally it was designed for a scene where a Spackle (humanoid alien) throws it at a human to knock him over as he runs away. The Spackle was then going to make the creature open up revealing spikes and be used to attack him.

Final design - This creature is used as a bola so it would be thrown and would wrap around an enemy's legs knocking them over. We ended up adding a rock as a counterweight to the weight of its head.

Final design - It had a function where it would open up revealing spikes. There was going to be a scene where the Spackle wrapped it around someone's neck in hopes of cutting it off with these spikes.

Initial sketch: not really worried about color, just working out forms and ideas.

They liked the more organic versions from the previous round but it needed to be lengthened in order for it to fully wrap around someone's leg as a bola.

Exploring various different things the Spackle could add to the end of the bola to act as a counterweight.
